To be or not to be an atheist: I have become somewhat fascinated by the amount or religiosity that has invaded practically every nook and cranny found on News 24 articles.

I have become somewhat fascinated by the amount or religiosity that has invaded practically every nook and cranny found on News 24 articles.

   Ultimately these bloated and hackneyed directives to avoid Christianity and God and other deities in the interests of seeking supremacy for a blog and personal satisfaction.  Eventually I had to turn to some or other more erudite sources for this article. I have heard so much about these Atheists who declare themselves as that and hope to carry-on tomorrow in pursuit of their own outcomes and targets. As far as I could gather is that nobody, irrespective who he or her may be, nobody has ever seen God or any other living deity yet are pushed by a serious force to adopt this no-god attitude or try to vend it upon the shoulders of others.

   Eventually, after a long and fruitless search I discovered international statistics on the internet referring to the shifting geography of international surveys made on Atheists between the years 2005 and 2012. The surveys were created to indicate the global changes and indicate the variations over the given period for Atheists and their movements and Christians who are moving in the other directions. Thus an indication that Atheism is not a fixed parameter and can change with time.   Only a minority of the world mostly concentrated in China and Western Europe claim to be Atheists.  Atheists were a small minority during the early years of the 21^st century.  Only 13% say they are Atheists.

They are mostly concentrated in East Asia where 47% of the Chinese and 31% of the Japanese say they are atheists and in Western Europe 14% of the population say the same. Sizeable majorities claim to be religious:  the global average is 59% another sizeable group claims to be non-religious but stops short of defining itself as “Atheist” Their global average is 23%.   Global Distribution of self perception: religious 59%

Not religious:  23% and Atheism:  is only 13 %:  The richer you get, the less religious you define yourself.  Those with a low income are less likely to turn to religion but closer to Atheism:  About 66% of income earners:  High Income 49% and medium income about 56% .

During the period 2005 and 2012 the south African religiosity index changed by -19% which indicates that there are shifts from Religion to Atheism and vice-versa.  Overall, it does seem, given the information that Atheism is dying out slowly on a global context.
